Capernaum

This stone from the synagogue shows the Ark of the Covenant.

This synagogue is from the 4th century ad,

it was built over the remains of the synagogue from Jesus' time.

Here, too people leave notes and prayers.

Board games remain carved into the floor.

The black rocks in the foreground are the Byzantine village built with local basalt.

The round stones are thought to have been a part of Peter's house, the octagonal church built over top in the 5th century ad.

The modern church built over top of both was erected in 1990, with a glass floor in the center.

There is also a beautiful Greek Orthodox Church built near the site.

We thought the church looked a bit like the Millenium Falcon.
