A View from our Window

The Nativity of Christ Cathedral was built between 1876 and 1883 when Latvia was part of the Russian empire.  During WWI when Riga was occupied by German troops it was turned into a Lutheran church.  In independent Latvia it was once again an Orthodox church.  During Soviet occupation it was a planetarium and a cafe.  The Cathedral has been restored since Latvia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
