In the museum

we watched a video, saw a reenactment of the first ride, practiced mounting the ponies, pumped water, "met" the men behind the idea of a cross continent mail service,  studied the map, saw what we might have taken in our wagon had we been on the Oregon Trail and enjoyed art.

Our next stop in St. Joseph MO

was the Pony Express Museum.  The museum was housed in the original Pony Express Stables.  We learned some interesting history about the Pony Express, including that soon after Johnny Fry left St. Joseph a rider left CA heading East.

St. Joseph, MO

The picture that Jesse James was straightening when he was shot.

We visited the house where Jesse James was shot and killed by his friend for the reward money.  After his death, the friend was arrested and charged with murder, the charge was later dropped but he never did receive the whole reward.

Baptism

We went down to our lake to watch some friends get baptized.  After the pastor baptized the people that had planned to be baptized he gave a general invitation for anyone that had recently asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior to come and be baptized.  Our church is getting ready to have a baptism service and the girls had been interested in getting baptized, until we found out we would be out of town.  They asked and of course we said yes!  R went into the water with them and after the pastor asked them the pertinent questions he got to baptize our girls!

August's Full Moon

is known as the Green Corn Moon, the Grain Moon or the Sturgeon Moon.

More Friends!

We enjoyed water sports and a picnic at the beach with the D Family.  Thanks for sharing your "toys".

Friends!

Thank you to all our MN friends that met us at Flandreau State Park for a "Near End of Summer" picnic.  The day was beautiful, warm and sunny with a slight breeze.  But, the fellowship was even better!  We ate, visited, swam, played in the sand, explored the riverbank, shot off a pop bottle rocket, and found mussels.  We are already looking forward to meeting up again in the spring!
